Looking towards the upcoming NBA playoffs, the New York Knicks rested three starters and planned to limit Amare Stoudemire’s minutes Thursday night in the season finale against the Charlotte Bobcats. Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said forward Carmelo Anthony, center Tyson Chandler and guard Baron Davis would not play. In addition, guard Toney Douglas was sick and would also be held out of the lineup. ”We’re going to go with the 10 guys that are in uniform and try to get a win,” Woodson said. ”We’ll get a chance to look at our young players and see if I can put them in positions to help us win.” Woodson said he considered holding out Stoudemire, the Knicks’ No. 2 scorer at 17.4 points per game. However, the five-time All-Star asked to see some action against the Bobcats, who have lost 22 consecutive games and could set a league record for the worst winning percentage in league history with a loss. ”He thought he needed the reps, so we’re going to grant him that wish,” Woodson said. ”We’ll probably play him two quarters, then sit him down and let the young players play.” The Knicks began the day tied with Philadephia for the final two seeds in the Eastern Conference, with both teams scheduled to open the playoffs Saturday against either No. 1 seed Chicago or No. 2 seed Miami.
